Poth Audio
Poth Audio was developed by Jeff Poth after his experience with listening to music in college. Poth found that the lack of fidelity while listening to music during his studies was bothersome and detracted from the music, even in a background setting. The flaws that he heard in 'basic setups' were so glaring that he noticed them even without listening for them. This is where Poth Audio’s mentality was created, in realizing that a good cable does not product noise, distort or have vague character. Hifi should be a means to a musical end, and Poth Audio cables serve that purpose.
Poth Audio is a boutique audio cables manufacturer; they do most processes involved in their cable constructions in-house. Poth Audio winds their own cable geometries, plate some of their own connectors, and have a complex set of refinements to the production process that distinguishes their cables from mass-produced units. Poth Audio believes that craftsmanship is key to quality and produce all of their cables with that motto in mind.
Poth Audio cables are known for being very open, very dynamic, very much a 'get out of the way' type of cable. They strive to minimize a variety of problems in cables through design and things like mechanical resonance, which leads to cables that are less sensitive to their environment. Poth Audio is a small company so their products often take 1-2 weeks to produce. There's often a wait associated with purchases as they don't maintain much stock and like to offer some customization options. While this may be a downside to their business, it’s nice to know that there is still a cables company out there who will take the time to produce cables that are unique to what their customers need and want.
Poth Audio uses a variety of materials that are used by other cable companies. They use some specialized Cardas Constant Q litz wire in some cables, RCA connectors from DH Labs, as well as spades and bananas from AudioQuest; however, their assemblies are unique. From unique geometries which minimize mechanical resonance and dielectric absorption to various conditioning treatments, electrical, mechanical, and chemical, (sometimes thermal too, depending upon application and design). The materials are all carefully selected. The RCA connectors are a copper alloy style and the banana plugs likewise. And, Poth Audio doesn’t mean that they use 'brass; they mean that there is a tiny percentage of a high spring rate metal added to their cables in order to increase contact longevity.
Poth Audio pays close attention to the details of what parts go into their cables and how they're implemented makes the overall constructions unique, even if few of the materials are truly proprietary. For instance, their RCAs were tested against a stable of others with a complex blind switching system.
This cables company believes that quality counts and recommends that their cables be used with high performance systems.
