Evidence Audio
At first glance this garage bound one-man cables company seems small; however, once you take a look at this manufacturer’s list of clientele, it becomes evident that Evidence Audio is far from undersized. With regulars including John Mayer, David Gilmour, and the Barenaked Ladies, this cables manufacturer is clearly respected and used by musicians everywhere.
For years, most manufacturers have built cables based on what they hear when listening to their customers, whether the end-user or a retailer. Up until recently, most requests have been for cables that are flexible, durable, colorful, profitable, well-packaged, advertised, floated on 60-day terms and so. Evidence Audio’s cables are designed not by listening to customers, but instead, to music. Fortunately, as Evidence Audio’s customers are musicians, their cables end up delivering that which means the most to them – an honest and emotional connection with their craft.
Most of the market for premium cables was cultivated in the home audio and home theater industry over the last 20 to 30 years. Evidence Audio was a pioneer on the studio and music instrument side of things with its introduction in 1997. Cables, at least in the enthusiast circles, are finally given the same regard on the production and recording side of the coin as they have been on the reproduction side.
This passionate and dedicated manufacturer believes that the most positive thing Evidence Audio has to offer its clients is the quality of music their cables help produce. As a result, their consumers spend less time wasting brain cycles over the equipment and more time just creating and doing what they love most: playing and producing music. One downside to their products is that their cables are sometimes a bit stiff in comparison to other cables.
The primary differences of the construction of Evidence Audio cables relates to material purity, strand count and the geometry of the cable. There are hundreds of variables one can play with to have an impact on sound quality. Other adjustments have an impact on cosmetics and feel (stiffness vs. flexibility). Evidence Audio understands what subtle changes every possible variable has in cable construction and implements those which make sense in the final product design. The cumulative effect of all the subtle changes can often surprise people when they listen to the cable for the first time. 99% of the cables available to people differ on the order of approximately 10% under the jacket. These cables don’t leave the listener with the impression cables sound very different because they aren’t. By contract, cables from Evidence Audio differ on a much higher scale— approximately 80% of the variables are different from other cables. The results when listening to music are appreciable and meaningful.
When we asked Tony Farinella, Evidence Audio’s one-man show, what he hopes his customers get out of his cables this was his response:
“Thicker hair, whiter teeth and a general good fortune. Short of that, I’ll be happy if they write or call me to say, 'I had no idea what I was missing, and I really appreciate what you’ve done for my music.' That’s the sort of feedback which keeps me happy with what I do with my days. Otherwise, I might as well be selling chicken wire. I’m in this for the music.”
