AES/EBU

Stands for the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It is the standard adopted for carrying digital audio signals via cables between devices. It is more officially designated AES3. It relates to a group of cables and connectors designed to support transmission of digital audio data. Another designation, S/PDIF is essentially the same, but relates to cables and connectors more for the consumer market. Both AES3 and S/PDIF cables and connectors are designed to transmit PCM Audio and DAT at 48 kHz and CD Audio at 44.1 kHz.
