Speaker cable is anything but ordinary and no two models are exactly the same. When it comes to choosing speaker cable for your system, keep in mind two important basics: gauge size and room size. The gauge of a cable refers to the thickness of the wire. A cable’s gauge is directly linked to the proximity between your speaker and amp. Keep in mind, the lower the gauge, the larger the thickness and the larger amount of distance between your amplifier and system, the smaller the gauge should be. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that a large room requires a cable with larger thickness and vice versa. If you are doing multi-room wiring for a household listening experience, make sure to take the proper precautions necessary for wiring through walls and ceilings. Make sure your cables are multi-room friendly and meet fire code regulations.
